Students pursuing the ROTC program complete a major in any area of their choosing and will graduate with their major and with a minor in military science. Since certain majors have admissions requirements in addition to USU's general admissions requirements, students should check with their individual department for details.

The military science program at USU is a four-year, nondegree program that provides coursework and training for students wishing to become officers in the Army. The program’s goal is to provide students with practical leadership training and to teach students how to be a leader in changing environments. Coursework consists of military history, leadership development, and national defense, and students also gain extensive experience with field training opportunities at rifle ranges, in Logan and Green Canyons, and at Camp Williams, the National Guard Training Site near Herriman, Utah.

The military science coursework is open to all interested students in the first two years. Students can participate without the intention of finishing the program. Students at the junior and senior level must be committed to finishing the program and becoming officers in the Army.

During the summer before their senior year, students will attend the National Advanced Leadership Camp to further refine their leadership skills in preparation for becoming officers. When a student graduates from USU as an Army ROTC Cadet, they earn the rank of Second Lieutenant.
