Wpa2 Sp3 Patch Windows Xp

Hi, I have encounterd several users' laptops that cannot connect to WPA2 encrypted networks after installing SP3. (They show up in the Windows Available Wireless Networks list, but don't show the 'WPA2' beside them as they should, and when you try to connect you get the standard error.) Before SP3 was installed it worked fine - and they can still connect to WEP networks. I've seen a lot on this online, but can't figure out a quick resolution - if there is one. In one case I unintstalled SP3, installed the WPA2 updates, and then re-installed SP3 - and I think that solved the problem. There doesn't seem to be any correlation to particular hardware.

Where do I find WPA2-PSK AES on WinXP SP3? I thought Windows XP Professional SP3 came with WPA2-PSK but I can't find it. To download the WPA2 patch from Microsoft. It's the same problem as I've seen when the WPA2 Windows updates aren't applied, except that when you try to install them now (with SP3) it won't let you, as 'a newer version is already installed.' If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be appreciated. Perhaps I should clairify - Before SP3 Automatically installed, his computer was able to connect to WPA2 encrypted networks. (I had installed the particular Windows updates relating to this.) In this particular case, it's an older Acer laptop with a PCMCIA D-link DWL-650G - which doesn't have any more recent drivers - but I don't think that's the problem, since it was working on WPA2 beforehand. Ben, the first thing to check is that the Device Drivers for the wi-fi cards are updated to the latest level: you will need to get them from the manufacturers' support sites. Microsoft doesn't seem to be full of answers these days as it took a third party site to detail how to re-install the WZC service on a laptop that had WZC service deleted by it's previous owner. When I dl'd the 'sp2' wzc service installer it complained that It had to be installed on SP1!!! Thats what the error msg.

Same date on their newest driver file * 3. I did get a computer to 'computer' connection established once with the Wildpacket driver which is Un-signed. But never a computer to AP connection. That was useless. Two days spent on all of this and nothing.

I wont upgrage to Windows 7 because the compatability checker says my Radeon Video Card won't run the Aero interface?!? Maybe in time. XP had a rough start with drivers too. I got a connection today, but only after changing the routers channel to ch. 6., a very crowded channel probably because its not apparent where to set it in the WZC setup. Where in the world can you set the channel manually in WZC these days.

I'd swear that I used to be able to do that before. I checked the driver settings, there's no place there.
